Another quieter suburb of Monte Gordo is Altura, popular for quieter Algarve family holidays. Altura's extensive sandy Algarve beach is one of its key attractions, plus its selection of high standard family holiday accommodation, particularly self catering holiday homes, apartments and villas.
Altura is a quieter Algarve base, perfect for families as it's fully equipped with good facilities such as shops, bars and a scattering of restaurants, but it's all low key here in Altura. The biggest attraction is the sandy expanse of beach on this stretch of the Algarve coast.
As Altura is quieter, it appeals to a range of holidaymakers. You're close enough to both Castro Marim to dip into luxury Algarve golf courses around here and just on the doorstep of Monte Gordo for more bustling traditional resort facilities.
Car hire Algarve (see weblink right to book cheap Algarve car hire online) is recommended here, to give you the freedom to push out into Tavira and the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Altura makes a good budget base for exploring the nature parks of the east Algarve, including nearby Reserva Natural do Sapal de Castro Marim. You're only around 15 minutes from the Spanish border here too!
