Much like Portugal golf course development around Porto and North Portugal, Lisbon golf really picked up towards the end of the 19th century. It got a boost from English residents in Lisbon. Golf courses are prevalent across the whole of the Lisbon suburb areas including particularly Estoril, Cascais, Sintra and down south around Setubal and the Troia peninsula. Lisbon golf holiday package choice is now almost as good as Algarve golf - maybe not in numbers of golf courses, the Algarve still reigns supreme there. However, the luxurious quality of Lisbon's golf holiday complexes is outstanding.
Lisbon is a golf mecca, and you've access too to Lisbon's exciting city centre, and superb beaches around the Estoril and Sul do Tejo coasts. Championship golf courses are at Troia and Cascais, and the Sul do Tejo area is particularly well covered for golf holidays.
