The Costa de Caparica is the Costa Azul's main hub, with its 8km stretch of sandy beach. Costa Da Caparica is easily reached from Lisbon centre via ferries (from Cais do Sodre) and buses. Not surprising then that this north west coastal stretch of the Setubal Peninsula gets crowded with Lisboans crossing the river. Surfing and windsurfing are both on the menu here, as is general beach activities. Top surfing spots include Sao Joao da Caparica, Praia da Sereia and Praia da Mata. During peak summer months a mini train runs the length of the beach, so you can hop on and off at your leisure.
Costa da Caparica has a resort feel, with plenty of holiday shops, bars and restaurants lining the coast. Costa da Caparic Tourist Information, Avenida da Republica, Costa da Caparica. Tel. 212 900 071.
The huge beach here at Costa Da Caparica is certainly the focus of the town. The surfing scene here is strong, with a choice of surf shops and surfing equipment outlets and surf schools.
Numerous hotels and restaurants line Rua dos Pescadores which runs down to the beach. For a beach resort feel close to Lisbon, Costa Da Caparica is one of the best.
Get to Costa Da Caparica from Lisbon via either ferry from Cais do Sodre or Belem or by bus from Praca de Espanha. See Transport weblinks right for details.
