Tabua is well situated near Coimbra to visit its historic sights as well as being near the countryside around the Serra da Acor countryside.
This area is well known for its walking routes, horse-riding, canoeing and activity holidays.
Tabua is about an hour's drive from Coimbra, about 58 kilometres east of the city. It is in the heart of the central Portugal countryside sandwiched between the River Mondego and the River Alva.
Being close to the Serra do Caramulo and the Serra do Acor there are plenty of opportunities for walking in the mountains or the lush wooded landscape in the valleys.
The river Mondego offers opportunities for canoeing and other watersports. Nearby are all sorts of attractions such as the Bread Museum at Seia that details the history of Portuguese bread making and the whole process from flour milling to baking in a re-creation of a traditional bakery. You and the kids can have a go at making bread and biscuits and take them home with you. The museum even looks into the symbolism of bread that has played an important political, social and religious role in human history.
